Bathroom renovation: what to expect week by week
A bathroom is a small room with a lot of trades in it. Knowing the sequence makes it much easier to judge whether a quote and a timeline are realistic.
Strip-out and discovery
The first day or two removes everything and reveals what's behind the walls and under the floor. Most genuine cost surprises appear here — old pipework, rot, or unsupported floors.
First fix
Plumbing and electrics are run before anything is closed up. This is the point where layout changes stop being cheap.
Tanking, boarding and tiling
Waterproofing is the part you'll never see and the part that matters most, especially in a wet room. Tiling then usually takes the longest single block of time.
Second fix and finishing
Sanitaryware, brassware, electrics termination, sealing and decorating. Ask who issues the electrical certificate before you sign anything off.
