Wet rooms vs walk-in showers
The two look similar in photographs and are quite different to build. The distinction is where the waterproofing stops.
Walk-in shower
A low-profile tray with a screen. Simpler, cheaper, and easier to get right. Suits most bathrooms and most budgets.
Wet room
The whole floor is tanked and falls to a drain. Excellent for level access and easy cleaning, but the floor build-up, drainage position and tanking system all have to be right.
Accessibility
If level access matters now or may matter later, a wet room or a level-access tray is worth the extra work. Some adaptations may qualify for support or VAT relief.
What to check in a quote
Which tanking system is used, what it's guaranteed for, and who is responsible if water finds its way out.
