A kitchen planning checklist that saves money
Most kitchen overspend happens because decisions are made late. Working through this list first keeps you in control of the design and the quote.
Start with how you use the room
Where do you prep, cook, eat and store things? Which parts of the current kitchen annoy you daily? Design from those answers, not from a showroom layout.
Decide what's moving
Moving the sink, hob, waste or radiators changes cost significantly. Decide early and get it priced explicitly.
Separate the budget into parts
Cabinets, worktops, appliances, and the trades. Knowing roughly how you want to split it stops one element quietly eating the rest.
- Cabinets and doors
- Worktops and splashbacks
- Appliances and sink/tap
- Fitting, plumbing, electrics, tiling, flooring, decorating
Ask what happens during the work
Agree how long the kitchen will be out of use, and what temporary arrangements exist. It's the single biggest quality-of-life factor in the project.
