Is my roof suitable for solar?
Most UK roofs can take solar. The useful question is not whether it's possible, but how well it will perform and what preparation it needs.
Orientation and pitch
South-facing roofs generally produce most over a year, but east–west arrays are very common and spread generation across the morning and evening, which can suit household usage better.
Shading
Chimneys, dormers, trees and neighbouring buildings matter more than people expect. A good installer will assess shading through the year, and may propose optimisers.
Roof condition
Panels typically last decades, so it's worth knowing the remaining life of the covering underneath. Doing roof repairs first is far cheaper than removing an array later.
Flat roofs
Flat roofs use ballasted or mounted frames. They're entirely workable, but weight loading and waterproofing need checking properly.
