Savings and generation depend on your roof, shading, electricity use and tariff. Any figure is an estimate until an installer has surveyed your property. Support schemes and VAT relief have their own eligibility rules and are never guaranteed.

Funding and support
Some households can access help through government energy-efficiency schemes, and VAT relief currently applies to qualifying domestic installations. Eligibility depends on your household, property, area and the scheme in question, so nothing is guaranteed. The check simply tells us whether a route may be worth exploring for you.

It depends on your roof orientation and shading, how much electricity you use during daylight hours, your tariff and whether you add a battery. A credible installer will model this from your own usage rather than quoting a headline figure. Treat any guaranteed saving offered before a survey with caution.

Under the Smart Export Guarantee, licensed electricity suppliers pay for the electricity you send back to the grid. Rates differ between suppliers, so it's worth comparing. An MCS-certified installation is normally required to apply.
Most domestic installations fall under permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and some flat-roof mounting systems can be exceptions. Your installer should confirm this before work begins.
Panels still generate in diffuse daylight, just less than in direct sun. UK systems are designed around realistic annual output rather than peak summer days.
A typical domestic install is completed in one to three days, plus scaffolding time either side.
MCS certification is the standard for domestic solar in the UK, and it's usually required to access export tariffs. Many installers are also registered with a consumer code such as RECC or HIES.
